  Gongan Holistic Community Development Model

Gongan Community Development Model

The style of business plans that are being written for the Aboriginal community and family groups were documents where the people had little participation in or understanding of how their local and regional business opportunities were to be realised.

Governments and businesses in the quest to achieve sustainable business development have at times pressured community groups to develop business plans that are focused purely upon profits and industry standards. This approach isolates the stakeholders (community members) who have concerns on the cultural, social and environmental impact of the business venture. It is important for all business ventures to be profitable but not at the expense of the cultural, social and environmental aspirations of the community.

Gongan Consultancy has taken a wider approach to formulating a directional planning process, it is important to create an environment were people have input into their business direction.

The Gongan Strategic Planning process is inclusive of;

1. Respecting the cultural, social, environmental and economic sensitivities;
2. Identifying realistic local & regional business opportunities;
3. Promoting wealth creation at the individual, family, community and corporate levels;
4. Presenting back information in relation to cultural/ spiritual ethics, political impediments, infrastructure & training needs and possible options to accessing finance; and
5. Facilitate Business/ Industry/ Community Development Workshops that are focused on building business education, community capacity and project development strategies;

Financing and building a business direction on unresolved cultural conflict or unrealistic business expectations is a formula for disaster. The Gongan Strategic Business Planning process is central to formulating a realistic business direction and gaining the support of individuals, families and/or community members.

The Gongan Strategic Business Planning process utilises the Gongan Models to ensure that the people participate and understand the strategic direction being formulated after during a series of meetings and business/ industry workshops.
