Rod is Bundjalung man from northern NSW who has pursued a private sector career that extends across the industrial relations, financial, mining industries and small business development at both the national and international levels.   Holding a Bachelor of Business (1987) from the Elton Mayo School of Management, University of South Australia, Adelaide.  Rod brings to the company a wealth of business experience at many levels, holding the following positions. 
  • NT Confederation of Industry & Commerce (Darwin & Alice Springs); Industrial Relations Officer (started as a trainee) representing NT Employers in IR matters (1980-82);
  • National Mutual Funds Management (Melbourne); Equity Resource Analyst with responsibilities for research (mining) coal, diamond and small gold sectors.  Providing research information, comment and recommendations in relation portfolio investment weighting within the Funds Management Resources (share) portfolio (1988-90);
  • Normandy Mining (Adelaide); Senior Manager responsible for creating and developing the new Normandy Indigenous direction including; corporate philosophy & policies; change management strategies at company & industry levels; internal & external communication strategies; land access strategies; on site employment and training programs (1990-92);
  • University of South Australia (Adelaide); Lecturer in operational management, marketing, community finance and other business related subjects; (1997);
  • National Indigenous Development Alliance (Brisbane); CEO building NIDA from a business concept to purchasing strategic insurance brokerages (Centrum Insurance Brokers Pty Ltd now owned by IBA).  NIDA was placed under administration and the assets were eventually transferred to IBA as part of the closing down of ATSIC (1999-2002).

    Girrwaawa Designs is a Grafton (NSW) based Aboriginal manufacturer of ceramic gifts and home ware products for the domestic and international market.  Girrwaawa Designs (Aboriginal Ownership over 80%) purchased Durahrwa Shed Designs (Ceramics) CDEP project in February 2005 to ensure that the Artists and production workers who are family continued to develop their skills, technical knowledge and business acumen in this enterprise.
